Full Moon In Full Effect: Lunar Eclipse Feb 2017
I have been intrigued by the moon for a long time and for the past few years I have been syncing with her more fully through ceremonies I started holding in my apartment with friends. I now do these ceremonies solo bringing in only my plants, crystals, music, candles, and other objects that have become sacred for me. I like the solo journey. I can go deeper into the meditation and have the freedom to go wherever I want without worrying about being present for others as I lead them through their journey.
I have experienced some powerful and profound moments connecting with the moon's energy and so I finally decided to bring her to life through charcoals. I love using my hands and charcoals really allow for this type of play. What was moving for me about making this piece was that I could feel the energy of the moon in an entirely different way--through the sensation of touch...
My fingers on the paper moving in a circle to carve out her sphere brought me into a deeper state where I could feel the sensation of the actual surface of the moon in my hands and throughout my whole body as all of me simultaneously became gently flooded with the presence of her energy. It was at this moment when the moon's energy became the creator of the piece and I simply the conduit. My hands transported me the closest I have ever been to the moon. Well, save a lucid dream I had six years ago where I found myself flying around it.
All the power of the cosmos lies within us and different elements help us tune into different aspects of this power. Everything in nature and in the cosmos is a portal in my opinion; portals that connect us to energy that we can channel to help us manifest something in our lives as in the case of the energy of the moon. Portals to channel and tune into the peaceful energy already within us as in the case of sitting by a still lake or walking through a beautiful forest. And portals to take you somewhere else, to another dimension as in astral travel or lucid dreaming.
There's so much to learn from the basic elements that surround us: air, earth, wind, fire. And not to forget the fifth and most intriguing element: ether, which is space itself, that which makes everything else come into formation and become a reality. We can learn much more about life and existence through our exploration and experience with these elements than any book may ever teach us.
